A fantastic opportunity to support the DevOps function within an entrepreneurial business with a growing brand in the UK.
Our client operate some of the UK's leading price comparison sites for Health Insurance, Income Protection and Life Insurance with significant innovations and USPs through our world-leading software. They have partnerships with some of the UK's leading household aggregators including Confused.com, GoCompare, Money.co.uk, uSwitch and MoneySuperMarket with whom they work closely.
They are looking for a Database Developer to join the BI & Data function in our expanding DevOps team. We are looking for someone to hit the ground running as we undergo major change to our BI & Reporting platform and support our team of Software Developers.
The successful applicant will be involved in developing new stored procedures, views and database jobs that support our comparison engine and CRM application, as well working with the Development team to ensure that the database platform is secure and operates effectively with a long-term goal of migrating the whole platform to the cloud.
o Become a subject matter expert in the business data and learn how the data supports the business goals, operations and processes.
o Undertake technical performance reviews of the Database, analyze the findings and implement tuning enhancements.
o Ensure that our indexing strategy is properly implemented and continuously reviewed.
o Incept, Develop and implement new pieces of work (T-SQL) that support the bespoke CRM application and improve how the database functions.
o Act in an advisory and consultancy capacity for the Dev team ensuring that all Database scripts are optimized and tuned and participate in database code reviews
o Work with the Project Management team to ensure that any projects that affect the Database are correctly planned and implemented.
o Work with the other members of the BI & Data function or the wider DevOps team to manage and resolve incidents that affect the performance of the database, operation of the application, provision of data, reports and BI.
o Ensure that relevant documentation is produced and maintained that describe the database and how it interacts with the wider environment
Skills and Knowledge
o 2+ years experience working with SQL Server 2012,2014 or 2016+ in a similar role. (essential)
o Experience using SSIS or simular technology. (essential)
o A background in working within financial services, insurance or other regulated environment (desirable)
o Exposure to or knowledge of working in an agile software development environment (desirable)
o Good working knowledge and demonstrated hands on experience working with T-SQL.
o Proven experience using various RDBMS technologies (SQL Server) including managing database objects (Tables, Views, Stored Procedures).
o Experience with the rest of the Microsoft BI Stack (SSRS and SSAS) would be advantageous.
o Knowledge or exposure to AlwaysOn Availability Groups would be advantageous
